Okay, well I have this huge unit test tomorrow, and have absolutely NO idea what any of the things we need to study for are. Not to mention I had stupidly left my textbook in my locker. Anyways ALL help is greatly appreciated!! I really need to pass. Ok so i am a sixth grader and we are taking a test in school. I memorized some of the questions so i can look em up at home (i know thats wrong but .it was necessary). Here are some of the questions. Throughout high school, I have worked hard to attain primarily A's and very few high B's in all subject areas. I am currently a senior. Math and science, however, have proven to be very difficult for me to grasp this year. I have already taken an honors introductory chemistry course in my sophomore year and did well in that course, so I decided to try out AP chemistry, which is said to be the most challenging class offered at my high school. I have a good work ethic and wanted to challenge myself, so I figured that AP chemistry would be a good fit. I was mistaken. Taking AP chemistry has made me realize that I am terrible at problem solving. Even after getting a 720 on the math portion of the SAT, I cannot do multi-step problems without taking long periods of time on them, and there are some problems that I simply do not know how to do. The upper level math and science courses I am taking right now have made me realize that math and science are my weakest areas. I spend more of my time studying and doing practice problems for both chemistry and calculus than any other subject, and I my worst grades are consistently in those courses. I do well in chemistry chapters primarily about the theory of chemistry, but I do poorly on tests that require more than basic knowledge of mathematics or physics, or problems in which multiple concepts need to be applied to arrive at a solution. I feel like I'm behind in both chemistry and calculus, and want to catch up. I am already on chapter 11 in chemistry and on chapter 6 in calculus, and concepts keep on building on each other, so I do not know how to catch up, still make sure that I'm understanding the current material, and do well on tests and quizzes. My grades in these two subjects clearly do not reflect the amount of effort that I am putting in, and I would like some advice as to how I can bring my grades up in both of those subjects and gain a better understanding of both subjects. I am not planning on pursuing math or science in college, but the top universities I am applying to want to see an applicant who does well in all subject areas, and, though I have done well in all classes up until this year, my low grades in chemistry and calculus could possibly be the grounds on which a college chooses to reject me. I also need to make sure I'm understanding all of the concepts in both subjects so I can perform well on final exams, International Baccalaureate exams, and Advanced Placement exams. Some background on the rigor of my classes throughout high school: I have only taken honors, track 1, AP, and IB courses, have never taken a regular or track 2 course, and have performed well academically. I would appreciate positive input from anyone. My problems are not the elements or the periodic table. I have memorized the periodic table. I have problems with difficult concepts taught in a second year chemistry course. Also, I know how to study. Apart from 2 B+s on my transcript and my current grades in calculus and 2nd year Advanced Placement chemistry, I am a straight A student, and I have gotten these grades because I know how to study (or I've known how to study for math and science up until now). Let me rephrase my last statement: I will appreciate all of positive input I can get, preferably input from one who has already taken calculus or 2nd year Advanced Placement chemistry.
